Turkey Tacos with Cinnamon and Cumin

Turkey Tacos with Cinnamon and Cumin

I saw this recipe several years ago on one of those fat-guy-learning-to-exercise-and-eat-right shows… I don’t remember what show it was. But my mouth was watering as they were making this so-simple meal, and the next day I got some taco shells so I could do it too. Not only is it low-fat and full of flavor, but it’s super-easy and quick to make, too!

Start with some ground turkey, and brown it in a pan.

Then dig out your ground cinnamon and cumin.

And sprinkle liberally. WAY more liberally than you’d think… I added some more after I took this photo.
Also, stick your taco shells in the oven (per their instructions) to get warm and crispy.

Stir it up and finish cooking the meat. By now your kitchen will smell amazing.

Serve with salsa and taco shells.

Just spoon some turkey and salsa into the shell and serve with steamed broccoli (like they did on the show… it’s really the perfect addition to this meal). Mmmmm…

  • I added a crap-ton of the seasoning and still found this very bland and dry. Needed cheese and or sour cream to liven it up, which I'm pretty sure is against the whole point ;) Try some chili powder, too, to add some kick, and maybe stir in a little salsa, onion, and garlic to the actual meat to retain moisture and cook in flavor... other than that, I'm going to keep trying to reinvent this one until I feel satisfied with the turkey cop out :)

wow i just tried this and it was amazing :) The turkey flavor was enhanced with the contrasting cinnamon and cumin flavors. it was fast and super easy and such a great light meal. I buy ground turkey in bulk and divide it in freezer bags in 8 oz increments. this way I cook enough for dinner and lunch the next day all in one meal but dont cook too much so I get bored of it and have to have a bunch of left overs. it works great :) GREAT recipe idea
  • Ground Turkey skeeves me out when it isn't seasoned with distinctly savory things. I might like this more with very lean ground beef or ground lamb. Those would seem to go better with cinnamon or cumin to me. And I would have to add salt and pepper - everything needs salt and pepper.
  • Looks delicious! Now if only I could get my husband to consume ground turkey...
