Tax Time 2008/2009

So it’s time to do 2008 taxes… or at least start getting everything together if you aren’t the model of organization (I know I’m not).

I pulled out all of my Joyful Abode files and receipts for 2008 and realized that really, I hadn’t done too badly with keeping everything filed and entered in my spreadsheet until we moved in May. Ah, there’s nothing like the jolting disruption of a move to dislodge your firmest routines. Plus, when you have your own business and move to another state during the year, you have to keep track of how much income you had in the first state vs. the second state, because you have to file separately for each of those states.

I thought about taking a picture of everything spread out on the floor with me hunched over my laptop with a highlighter in my hand (for the papers, not for my computer). Then I decided that would be too heart-attack inducing and might not be the best thing to show on a family-friendly blog.

So far, most of my receipts are entered… I have to double-check my paper receipts and match them to my spreadsheet for Jan-May, then make sure I enter the rest of my paper receipts for the rest of the year. Paypal transactions are all done, and propay fees are entered too.

Everything is in my spreadsheet for the Navy CDH preschool thingy… that was a pretty simple operation.

So this year I get to file TWO Schedule Cs. Oh boy.

How complicated are your taxes? Anyone up for some simplification?
