My little camera is starting to get on in years. It’s slowing down, and part of that may be that it just needs a new battery because the current one is reacting more slowly… but it also has some dead pixels where it doesn’t record any info. Normally you can’t tell but if that pixel is over a dark area in the picture, you’ll see a white dot.
And while it’s good for throwing into my purse just in case I need to take a picture somewhere, trying to set up shots for food posts is really tough… the autofocus doesn’t always focus on the right thing (like it’ll focus on the steam just above the food) and it’s really hard to get any sort of depth of field. Also, while it has some (very hard to access) manual options, things like aperture and shutter speed are impossible to control.
So… I’m saving saving saving for a Canon EOS XSi. I actually picked it out a while ago as my camera of choice, and was SO JEALOUS to learn that my dad bought one for my stepmother for her birthday!!! Well, Santa didn’t bring one for me so I’ve been saving saving saving. And I’m very close to being able to get one of the kits available on ebay… they include the camera, several lenses, a case, and some other stuff (it varies from kit to kit).
This film is particularly applicable. I don’t have a “camera graph” like those boys do, but the number in my account has been rising more than it’s been falling (I have bought a few things while saving, including a GREAT makeup brush from everyday minerals), so that’s exciting to watch!
Isn’t that a honey?
What are you saving for? Are you aggressively saving (hardly buying anything else with “extra” money) or are you putting in a few dollars here, a few dollars there? Do you save for many things at once or put all of your energy into one thing at a time?

I know that itch, I love my photo equipment!! I second what was said about Ebay. That area draws a lot of crooks and grey market products. Make sure you by from a reputable seller! I’ve had three bad transactions on Ebay out of 1000+ and they were all camera related. Personally, I will never buy camera equip. off Ebay again. Watch Adorama.com and B&H Photo.com prices, I have got some nice sales combined with refunds to match Ebay prices. Hope that helps!
I desperately want a Sony Cybershot H10 . . . but we`re currently saving to build a bathroom, so it`s hard to justify spending much on a camera! Good luck with yours.
I buy loads of things on Ebay, but you would be taking a risk obviously! I really want a Nikon D90 but don’t need (or deserve) it at the moment
Be careful buying camera equipment on eBay. I bought my Canon Digital Rebel XTi on eBay a while ago and had it imported to the UK. Because there was a problem with the camera – and it was an import – I was lucky to find a dealer to fix it. What lenses are you thinking about?
