I love zucchinis. I think I could have 10 zucchini plants all producing and feel like it wasn’t quite enough. Last year there were so many zucchini recipes I wanted to try, but never got a chance to because we didn’t have enough, and then this sucker, a squash bug (or an army of them) decided to munch my plant and kill it.
So this year we planted two zucchini plants instead of one. One is a bit stunted right now, but the other is thriving and flowering.
I guess it’s changed its mind a couple times about whether or not to make a zucchini, because the first flowers fell off with no sign of baby zucchinis growing in their places. But things look good. Only one hole in any of the leaves so far, and no sign of the squash bugs quite yet.
In case you were wondering, I’m tying up the branches with the larger leaves in an effort to try to train it to grow vertically (I’ve heard it’s difficult to do but worth it when you achieve it) and also to keep the big leaves from shading our other plants too much.
