Pears with a twist

I’ve always been a fan of sweet and salty combos. Bacon-wrapped dates, fruit and cheese, that sort of thing.

So here’s a sweet and salty dessert for you. It may sound a little unorthodox, but give it a try and you might just do what I did… gobble up the whole bowl, lick your lips, and say, “NOM!” Or yum. Or whatever it is you say when stuff is freaking delicious.

It’s simple really. Cut up a pear, making sure to get out the gross gritty core parts.

Warm up some bacon drippings in a pan … probably about a Tablespoon or so. Wait until the pan and drippings are warm, and then…

BAM! Throw in those pears. (I say BAM! because you know, Emeril Lagasse says “Pork fat rules!”)

Cook them until they start to get soft, and some of them begin to have little caramelized brown edges. Then dump them in a bowl and have at it.

When you’re licking the co-mingled bacon drippings and pear juice off your lips, I’ll forgive you if you don’t thank me. I know you’re thinking about other things. You know, like the other pears in your crisper drawer.
