Watermelon from our Garden

We planted watermelons this year. Cute little ones that only get about 6 inches in diameter.

So far our plant has only made 2. The first one? We picked it way too early. It’s impossible to tell when they’re ready! It had stayed the same size forever, was very heavy (so very juicy), so I picked it. It had white flesh… tasted pretty good but not very sweet. It was VERY juicy.

The second one, I waited for a very very long time before picking it. I’m not sure how long it was but it felt like it had been on the vine for months by the time I plucked it.

I guess we waited long enough!

We cut that little cutie in half and each ate our half with a spoon. So juicy, sweet, and delicious!

I hope watermelons grow well in California!

Excellent! I hope to live there long enough to have a garden. haha.
No need for admiration…we move because that's life, not because we are “strong people” or any of that. :)

Thanks! Glad you like it. :)
And it's awesome that you're getting so much use out of your bunting – way better than buying and throwing away streamers every time, right?

That's prime agricultural land, so unless you are water rationed, your garden should prosper! Only 3 hours to San Francisco to boot (though a little bit in the boonies for everyday). There's no way I could move all the time like you military folks, I sort of admire that.

Like the new look! Thanks for the comment on my blog. And thanks for the bunting tutorial. I've used my bunting 3 times in the last 3 weeks, so I'm really happy with it. SO much better than balloons to decorate for a party.

I'm not a huge melon fan, but watermelon fresh from the garden is quintessential summer. Which part of CA are you moving to, and when? Welcome, though water restrictions hurt gardens (especially water loving plants like melon).
