1,600 people search for “My Pet Dog” each month

What are they even looking for? Do they know that Google doesn’t know what THEIR dog looks like or how to find pictures of their particular dog?
Are they looking for the book by that title? My Pet Dog doesn’t look like that good a book… I can’t believe 1,600 people would be looking for this book every month.

Or are they actually looking for websites where people gush about their own dogs?
Well, I guess I will gush a little about my pet dog. She is pretty cute after all.

When left to her own devices, she generally curls up like this in the corner of hubby’s side of the couch (well, where he usually sits. We don’t “own” the sides or anything). We call this position “a doughnut.” “Look sweetie! The dog is a doughnut!” “Awwww.” Love it.

She’s also incredibly photogenic. I’ve been taking tons of pictures of her since we got her, and she’s pretty much figured out that the camera means she should hold still and be adorable.

She is great at playing. By that I mean we can wrestle with her and play fetch with her and she is very careful not to get too aggressive. When we first got her she was very “mouthy” and always wanted to nibble our hands, but we have taught her that puppy teeth should never touch human skin, and now she avoids teeth-to-skin-contact at all costs, so she is a joy to play with. She’s also extremely tolerant of us when we make her dance (think sitting on our laps with us making her do hula-dance movements with her paws) , flip her ears inside out, trim the fur around her paws with scissors, or make her balance things on her head.

This is called the “puppy Nelson.”

She used to hate going into her crate, but there was a switch all of a sudden when she realized maybe it’s not such a bad place to be. She’d RUN into her crate at bedtime, and sometimes she’d hang out in it during the day if she was sleepy or wanted a bit of alone-time. But we thought her crate was getting a bit small for her…

So we got her a brand new one. Much bigger, with more open sides so she can see what is going on around her. She LOVES this crate (more sprawling room) except for the clanky noise the walls make if she accidentally bumps into them. She’s getting used to it though.

I wonder how she will react to driving across the country for our move to California. She’s fine in the car on the 8-hour drive to South Carolina, though she doesn’t like to eat or pee during the whole day. I’m thinking after the first 2 days in the car, she’ll resign herself to just living in the car. “This is my life now.” Then maybe she’ll be willing to pee when we stop for breaks. I also wonder what she’ll think of the new house, and where her new default curling-up spot will be.

  • Yay, a Zora post! She reminds me so much of my Dottie. We call the curled up position 'croissant'. :-)

So excited to hear you are moving to California! You'll love it out here. You can grow your plants and herbs and stuff ANY TIME! haha. Summers are hot...sometimes way too hot...but it hasn't snowed it years - so if you're one of those people that hate the cold - it'll be a nice change.

And we don't all know celebrities or go surfing all day!! hahaha.

I'm really excited about the gardening possibilities. :)
I don't hate the cold but I do hate humidity, so I'm glad it's a dryer place. And yeah, I'm pretty sure there's no surfing in the central valley. haha.

Hi there, You should be able to train her to pee on command. We succeeded in teaching our girl when she was much younger, and it's a life saver on those horrible rainy days. For the clanking, try masking tape at the joints, it won't eliminate, but it might reduce the movement.

We tell her "go potty" and it helps her remember why we came outside in the first place (you're right - very helpful in the rain), but it only tends to work at home. haha. When we're in a new place there are TOO MANY EXCITING SMELLS AND SOUNDS to distract her.

Also, for the crate, it's not that clanky... we can't use tape because we need to be able to fold it up for our move, but honestly... it's not that bad (certainly not annoying at all to us people). Just startles her a bit, and she will get used to it soon, I'm sure.
