I’m back! With a little surprise.

Submitted by Joyful Abode on December 28, 2009 – 1:10 pmView Comments
I’m back! With a little surprise.

I’ve been away from the blog for more than one reason. I guess I should air them out and let you in on my life, right?

1) First there was the move, and the unpacking and settling-in. That excused me for maybe a week and a half.

2) Then my husband was away at survival school, and I was mopey and uninspired. I also worked while he was gone, taking care of a sweet 2 year old.

3) After that, I got a job as a nanny and have been busy taking care of two sweet children. They are lots of fun!

4) My mouse died. I gave it new batteries to eat but it wouldn’t revive itself. And I just CAN’T use a track pad to edit photos or do anything else remotely productive. So I’ve been hanging around facebook and twitter and such, but not getting much done. (Thanks to my hubby who gave me a brand new mouse for Christmas!)

5) I have lost all interest in food. Everything sounds/tastes disgusting. I’m too tired to cook; last night I made some chicken thighs and actually had to pull a stool up in front of the stove while I got them started in the pan. For the last 7 weeks or so, I’ve been nauseated every morning and every evening, and sometimes in between too. And completely drained of all energy. Because…

6) I’m pregnant!!! Baby Chapelle is due July 10, 2010. I am so excited, couldn’t be happier (well maybe if I could enjoy food), and definitely looking forward to starting the next chapter in my life with my husband.

This picture is from week 10 day 5. The baby was waving its arms all around and “swimming” as we watched (not sucking its thumb, even though I know that is what it looks like). It was the coolest thing to see!

Today is week 12 day 3.

And now that I’ve spilled the beans, maybe I’ll keep you in the loop a bit more.

CONGRATS!!!! Im soooo glad your back, ive missed your updates. Im expecting too, June 2!
  • JoyfulAbode
How cool! Congrats to you too. :) Hope your first trimester was easier than mine was!
  • Danielle
Congratulations!!!! I checked out your blog periodically - it all started with your delicious tomato pie recipe - and I just happened to stop by and saw the news!!! I hope you are able to get back to normal soon, I'm sure the nausea can not be easy to deal with! Happy New Year... what a great way to enter 2010!
  • JoyfulAbode
Hey Danielle! Thanks so much for stopping by and for the congratulations.
I'm feeling a bit better lately - not as sick, and a little more willing to try different foods though I still have many aversions. Back to cooking a little and posting some recipes, so that's good!
Happy new year to you too! I know it will be an exciting year for my family - hope yours is good too!

Congratulations! I haven't been by your blog in a while and just thought of it today. I don't know you, but it seems to me you will enjoy motherhood, and make a great mom. I have 3 children, so I know all about the All Day Sickness...they lie when they say it's 'morning'. Don't worry, it shouldn't last too much longer. Have a great pregnancy!

  • JoyfulAbode
Aww thanks so much for stopping by and for the kind words. They DO lie about "morning." My nausea is much less now but I still have a lot of the aversions so eating is still a challenge... hope it gets better soon.
And I will definitely enjoy motherhood!
  • Congratulations!!!!! Not even sure how I found your blog -- but how awesome to see a sonogram pic. Wishing you the best...and wishing it were me!! Not IN the pic...but pregnant, that is. :D
  • JoyfulAbode
Thanks so much!!! That would be weird if it were you in my ultrasound... but yeah, i get it. :) good luck with becoming pregnant if that's what you want!
  • monsterbugblankets
Aww, Emily, congrats!!!! How very sweet! And food will be yucky on and off the whole pregnancy. :P Or you'll be too tired to care about cooking! I go from cooking dinner 6 times a week to pretty much hubby has to fend for himself for 9 months! Can't wait to find out what you are having!!!!!

    :) Jen
  • JoyfulAbode
Thanks!! :) Good to see you in my comments. Friendly name I haven't seen in a while! I am definitely not thinking much about cooking other than for survival at this point.
Well, correction... I THINK about cooking a lot, but I don't actually do it. Hopefully I'll get over that soon.
And I will post an update when we find out the gender! I don't feel the need to be all secretive and "surprisey." It's a surprise at 4-5 months or a surprise at 9 months, you know?
  • Congratulations!
  • JoyfulAbode
    Thanks Tiffany!!!
  • ghettofreddy

As an older mom and retired Navy wife I am glad that I found your site. I have a Stitch 'n Bitch book and saw you listed and wanted to say that after reading what you have here it is heartwarming to see younger women not being turned off by the domestic side of life. It can be rewarding especially when you use your creative abilities to make your home a place that your family will want to be. Keep up the good work!
  • JoyfulAbode
Aww I wondered if anyone would try to find my website via S&B. How cool that you found me and you're a "sister" Navy wife!
I'm definitely inclined toward the domestic side of things... love making things cozy and warm with love. Thank you for the sweet note!
  • So exciting! Congrats to you and best of luck for a healthy and happy pregnancy :)
  • JoyfulAbode
    Thanks Kristen!
  • CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I meant all of those exclamation points.

Good luck as you move onto this new chapter. It's always interesting to see what foods are being made during pregnancy.
  • JoyfulAbode
Wow, that was a LOT of exclamation points! :) Thanks!
Just posted one of my pregnancy recipes... let me know what you think. haha. I don't think it's that "out there."
  • Kelly

  • JoyfulAbode
Definitely a lot of babies! I think 3 of the bloggers whose blogs I read "spilled" about their pregnancies in the last month.
And congratulations to you too! You must be so excited for the baby to come. Not much longer!
  • Amber
Aw congrats! ust had my second baby 6 weeks ago! I remember the 1st ultrasound, wow...just amazing. Enjoy your pregnancy best you can. :) Its so tiring, but well worth it.
  • JoyfulAbode
Congratulations on your little one's birth!!! How exciting!
The ultrasound was definitely cool...made everything way more real. I totally cried and giggled and *squee*d all at the same time. haha. Especially when the baby started swimming around.
  • laryssaheaveninthehome
    So happy for you! Congratulations!
  • JoyfulAbode
    Thanks much! :)
  • kristenArkell
Ahhhh!!! Kristen here, just found your blog from MDA. Seeing those pictures actually almost made me cry! I have a 6 mo old boy and the memory is still strong for me. There is no greater joy than having your own! I'm sorry to hear about your nausea, tho. It won't last forever tho! Haha, gotta run, my little guy is crying!
  • JoyfulAbode
Awww you almost cried? Sweet. :) I really hope the nausea passes soon. It's been non-stop since week 6. I'm definitely excited about the little one!
  • Congrats! Does it sound weird to say I had a feeling you were pregnant? Like, during your absence, I just wondered. So awesome!
  • JoyfulAbode
oohhhhh you know things! Do you know if it's a boy or a girl? haha. I have a feeling... but we'll have to wait and see.
  • Angie's Design Shop

Congratulations! I'm sure you'll be a lovely mother. That's the day before my birthday. Best of luck!
  • JoyfulAbode
Thank you. :) I will try to be a lovely mother but we'll have to see how that unfolds! hehehe. I guess July is a good month.
  • Wow, you're the 3rd person I know to be pregnant and due in July in the last 3 weeks. My sister-in-law, boss, and you are all due so close together. So many babies! I'm very happy for you. :)
