Yesterday I “turned” 18 weeks “old” in my pregnancy – with the weird way that pregnancies are measured at least in the US (from the last menstrual period), that means my baby is 16 weeks along. I’m definitely out of the first trimester, though still have some lingering “effects”… sleepiness, exhaustion, food aversions… but not nearly as bad as before. I’m feeling peaceful about the pregnancy and I’m ready to start “glowing” at any moment. Any day now…

Inspired by donya luana on Flickr (who was inspired by this guy) and her gorgeous weekly pregnancy photos, I decided to take photos each week and write a little note to the baby. I’m not sure what I will do with them – maybe get them printed into a little book along with some photos of when the little one gets here. In any case, here’s the first one!

Great idea - great picture! But hey ... don't you think Topher should have a companion set of pictures? (And BTW, I think the glow has been there for quite a while).
  • JoyfulAbode
haha - so you can watch his belly grow too? I don't know if he'd appreciate that. But maybe he will want to write a "Dear Baby" note a little bit further on, and that would be very sweet.
  • Love this picture and post. I just had my last baby and SO wished that I wouldv'e done this :(
What a beautiful and meaningful thing to do! How do you do the photos, with the notes? I would love to do them monthly of my new baby :)
  • JoyfulAbode
I think doing it monthly for the baby is a great idea!
I just took some pictures against a blank wall, photoshopped out the wall and combined them into a new file, then added the note. Easy peasy!

the idea of taking pics & writing a note to baby is so sweet & something i think any child would cherish into adulthood. and it looks to me like you're glowing already - beautiful!!
  • JoyfulAbode
    Thank you so much. :)
  • Awwwwwww.....

    How special!

    Super sweet!
  • JoyfulAbode
    Thanks, Ingrid. :)
  • Deb
That is so wicked sweet! What a lovely idea! You have that awesome pregnant glow, too.
  • JoyfulAbode
Thanks Deb. I don't feel very glowy yet but... any day!

You are such a cute pregnant lady! You are so tiny! Hopefully I can be that lucky when I get pregnant!
  • JoyfulAbode
oh, Lindsay, I'm sure I'll balloon out sooner or later!
  • Aww...I love the picture/letter idea. I'm going to have to do that when I get pregnant. You should definitely make a book out of them.
  • JoyfulAbode
I think it will be such a sweet way to remember these months later on. You should definitely do it too!
  • Maba
This is so sweet Emily. I'm inspired too. You should definitely make a book/album out of it.

  • JoyfulAbode
Ooh Maba are you going to start doing it too?? You should! I would LOVE to see/read yours too.
  • Amber
Very cool. I am super jealous. I was so sick with my first pregnancy I did little but sleep and try to keep water down. My second pregnancy was much easier so I kept a blog about it. Its nice to go back and read through it all. So strange, on the 4th of March it will be ONE WHOLE year that I got my last positive test. (No more babies for this mama!)

Glad to hear your pregnancy is going well. Enjoy it, it flies by, and then you have a little bundle in your arms who is completely reliant on you. It will change your world in a way that you never expected.
  • JoyfulAbode
aww you were sick the entire time??? How awful!!! I felt like that for a long time and now am finally starting to feel better.
What is your blog's link? I'd love to take a peek.
  • hannah
Aw look how cute you are! The baby bump is definitely starting to show :) I think this is a great idea by the way, it will be so cool to be able to look back at all the weekly pictures and see how much you changed and how you were feeling at the time each picture was taken!
  • JoyfulAbode
Thanks hannah! I feel like people who know I'm pregnant can tell there's a baby bump at this point, but that people who don't know (especially when I'm wearing a jacket or sweater) just probably think I'm "thick." hahaha

It will definitely be a cool thing to look back on though, you're right! And this way I won't have all the memories blend together maybe....
  • Stephanie
Congratulations! I am 22 weeks along. Ditto sleepiness, exhaustion and food aversions! My poor hubby made our favorite dish a few weeks ago and I couldn't eat a bite. He was sure my aversion to mushrooms wouldn't include 'our' dish. It was funny though!
  • JoyfulAbode
Congratulations to you too! So sad about your mushroom aversion - but your hubby sounds very sweet.
One night I had a really good dinner and told my husband that maybe I was on my way to being "cured!!!" The next morning he made me an omelet even though I'm having a pretty severe egg aversion. I was like, "I dunno sweetie..." and he goes, "Oh it's gonna be so great. You'll definitely eat it!" Well it looked great, but poor hubby, it made me gag and I couldn't eat more than a couple bites.
  • yayanana
I LOVE this. And soon you will know how being "Mommy" feels. So great. So scary. and the absolute best thing in the world.

PS. Save the comments and pictures...I know "someone" who could make you a book.
  • JoyfulAbode
    haha the comments?
    like blog comments?

I think I will make it a very simple book just with the picture/notes... nothing scrapbooky or fancy, so I can do this one. But that is very sweet that you know "someone." I appreciate it!
  • So great! I can't wait to follow your progress! I'm still not sure what I'll do with my weekly notes either yet. I was thinking some sort of little book or album, just like you.
  • yayanana
Your work is stunning; so clean and crisp..
  • JoyfulAbode
Hey thanks so much for taking a look! Yours were just so inspiring. :)
Mine won't be nearly as professional-looking as yours are but it's the thought that counts, right? And hopefully baby will appreciate the thought when he or she gets older too.

Let me know if you think of other ideas for things to do with the photos/notes, or a clever way to make a book/album... It will definitely be a special thing to have down the road.
