Lemons

You know how people say, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade” to mean, “take something not-great and turn it into something awesome”? Why is that? Lemons are wonderful! They look gorgeous on the trees, and sunny in a bowl on the counter. They are amazing for squeezing over chicken or fish, or using to make hollandaise sauce or just sprucing up a glass of water… Putting a splash into some soup gives it a little zip of flavor, and I could continue for paragraphs.

So today was a lemony day. I woke up in a sunshiny bedroom, and my sweet husband was in the kitchen making spicy pork breakfast sausage. I got my barefoot, pregnant self into the kitchen and made homemade hashbrowns with cheese, and we had breakfast together.

Then he cleaned around the house a little while I dusted (he HATES dusting), and then he had to run an errand so I opened the windows to air the house a bit (70 degrees and sunny!) and began to weed our front garden.

Check out these weeds (in the big giant “green trash can” for yard waste):

Then my sweetie came home and started helping me. The garden area is looking much better than its previous Neglected-All-Winter state!

I got tired after a bit and sat on a reclining beach chair sunning my legs and my huge belly, while hubs continued to weed, turning this:

into this:

And that green waste can got fuller and fuller.

I came in and washed up and made lemons into lemonade…

…and served it up in mason jars like a good Southerner.

“Clink!” To the first gardening day of the year.

And we’re not the only ones enjoying the springy warm sunny day in February (when 49 states in the country are covered in snow).

Zora likes it here! Not many fleas/ticks/allergens, so she has been very very comfortable. haha. I think she will enjoy it more when I'm home during the day, so she won't have to spend as much time in her crate – but she's hanging in there. Thanks for asking!

I can't imagine having so much snow, day after day, week after week… I would get tired of it too. The fog here is gloomy enough for me!

Oh! It looks so beautiful there. Not that I don't love my home state(Ohio), the snow is just becoming a bit tiresome. I could really use some green!

How is Zora enjoying her new home?

It's been in the upper 50s to 60s here lately. Yesterday was just SO springy and wonderful. What's it been like in FL?

Yesterday was so lovely – I'm glad we took advantage of it! Today was back to fog and chill. But we still have lemonade in the fridge, and green grass in the yard. :)
