Our dog gets really puffy … well, maybe not puffy, but kind of… shaggy. And thick-furred. And if it’s warm out, she gets HOT. And then little bits of dirt get trapped in her fur.
So eventually…
We bust out the clippers and give her an all-over haircut. Nothing fancy.. No fading or different lengths anywhere. Just zoom all over her. Doesn’t she look amused?
And then we give her a bath. And she’s SO clean and good-smelling and silky-feeling that I can’t keep my hands off her for at least a week. It’s like petting velvet. And she’s much more comfy in the sun, too.

i think that basic dog grooming should be done on a daily basis like combing the dog hairs;;.
Yes! At first we used people-husband clippers but the finer hair gets stuck/clogged in the blade and guard. And they're not meant to be run for as long so they overheat too… We invested in a great clipper from Oster and it is fantastic. Instead of a guard, you put the size blade on that you want, so there's less potential for clogging in that way – also the clippers are just BETTER. And they still get warm but take a lot longer.
I think they were about $100-120 plus another 30 or so for the blade, but definitely worth it if you have a dog who needs to be groomed each month or two.
question…did you use special dog grooming clippers? we want to start grooming our dog (Bandit, 3 year old schnauzer mix) to save money. petsmart charges us $50 for a bath and grooming!! we priced out grooming clippers and they are between $40-$100. just wondering what you use and if you like them? we have regular hair clippers (for buzzing my husbands hair). we tried using those once but Bandit's hair is really fine and they didn't work so good.
