International Babywearing Week starts today! I don’t have a huge touching story to share, and I can’t tell you that babywearing is central to my parenting thus far, especially since my daughter refuses to be worn inside the house (though on errands and outings she is happiest in my ring sling or my soft structured carrier).
But I can tell you that my carriers are important tools to me! I like to keep my little girl close to me when we’re out and about. I feel like it helps me respond to her needs much more quickly, and I think she’s much more comfortable against my chest than she would be in a stroller or an infant car seat. I can’t say those things for sure though, because I don’t even own a stroller or an infant car seat (Don’t get all scared – I have a car seat for her, but it isn’t the kind that “pops out” to carry your baby around in).
I will also say that although I’m not a huge germophobe, I like that when I’m wearing Anneliese, people don’t feel like they can just touch her without asking, the way people often do with babies in strollers and infant car seats. That alone made me much braver about taking her out to run errands in the first weeks.
So yes, I love me some babywearing and look forward to doing it more. And I’m looking forward to trying out tons more different carriers, too. So in celebration of babywearing this week, I’d like to share the following “goodies” with you!

I'm a Navy wife and stay at home mom of two beautiful children. I cook simple, delicious, grain-free recipes, do crafts, decorate my home on a budget, and keep a happy household. I tandem breastfeed, babywear, cloth diaper, practice elimination communication, homebirth, and co-sleep, but I'm not a hippie.

Hi! That is a beautiful ring sling! What brand is it I would like to get one!!!
Thanks again for telling me to check this post out on Twitter! My husband and I both wear Hannah daily, so I love having different options for her–the ring sling tutorials look wonderful.

I wore and wear my babies. All of them starting with the first one 15 years ago and now, with a 26 day old newborn. I wear her in the house, out and about and everywhere else. It breaks my hear to think about someone else taking care of her and her sitting in a bouncy chair all day when I go back to work at the first of the year. Thanks for the resources and links. Fun stuff

I love this! I’m bookmarking it for all the great materials and sewing blogs!
Thanks for including my story, too. =)
I think I could comfortably say I’m a babywearing addict. I wore all three of my boys (I still wear the 20 month old at least once a week) and couldn’t imagine NOT having a carrier of some sort. Heck, I even ran a babywearing business for a short time!
Great post you wrote. The references are fabulous as well! Thanks so much for sharing, your daughter is beautiful as is the carrier!
love this! the personal babywearing stories remind me of some of mine. i can’t wait to wear this baby!
oh wow this is an amazing post! Thank you for listing those children’s books, I had no idea there actually were some about babywearing! And I LOVE baby carrier giveaways!
That photo of your naked little baby in the gorgeous ring sling is BEAUTIFUL. I love it so much. There is nothing like your precious daughter all snuggled on your chest is there? oh baby love!
