What Is It?
Rockabye baby music takes favorite adult albums and kid-ifies them, changing them into lullabies. I suppose the theory is that you can listen to “kid music” but not go crazy because you’ll be singing your favorites in your head while you listen. I received the Pearl Jam album to review.
In the words of Rockabye Baby! :
Rockabye Baby! transforms timeless rock songs into beautiful instrumental lullabies. Guitars and drums are traded for soothing mellotrons, vibraphones and bells, and the volume is turned down from an eleven to a two. Rockabye Baby! is the perfect way to share the music you love with the littlest rocker in your life.
Are new baby’s cries turned up to ten? Need an alternative to the nightly riot act? When it’s you vs. them, these sweet lullaby renditions of Pearl Jam’s rock anthems are as comforting as a warm flannel blanket. Just breathe, Mom and Dad–it’s sleeptime in Seattle.
My Thoughts:
In general, I’m not a huge fan of “kid music.” Dr. Jean makes me want to burn holes in my eardrums. After years of teaching and taking care of kids, I decided that if I don’t find the music worthwhile for ME to listen to, I’m not subjecting my kids (Anneliese, students, or kids I’m taking care of) to it.
So when I listened to this album, I judged it based on whether I ever wanted to hear it again… or not. And my feelings were mixed. After the first couple of songs, I was thinking, “Dear lord, I don’t think I can make it through an entire album of this.” All the songs sound roughly the same, because they’re synthesized arrangements with chirping crickets and frogs in the background. But when “Better Man” came on, I got into it a bit. I danced with Anneliese and heard the REAL song in my head.
But then again, would I ever choose this album when I have so much other GOOD music to listen to? I’m thinking probably not. But I thought that maybe if they sold their songs individually, it might be fun to pick and choose (they have TONS of albums based on music from so many popular artists and groups!) my favorites and compile them into a hand-picked album. It might be a good choice for just some quiet background music, or white noise for bedtime, or (if you’re a preK teacher) music to play during that naptime hour when you can’t stand to hear the same classical music over and over, and you’re sick of the yoga/zen/massage/chimey music.
And then guess what I found. They DO sell the songs individually in the iTunes store. Green Day, Bob Marley, The Beatles, Queen, Journey, Led Zepplin, U2, Nirvana, and so many more. It might be worth picking and choosing your favorites for when you need quiet-time music and your usuals just aren’t cutting it.

I would definitely love the U2 album if I won.
I feel your pain about Dr. Jean!! I teach kindergarten. Her songs are FANTASTIC, but honestly, must she sing like that? With that awful music in the background?? I usually just take her songs and sing them on my own – without the cd!
I’d have to go with Coldplay if I won. Fingers crossed!
Love these albums, I already picked up the more beatles album, but would love a copy of the Queen album! Our little girl is due on thanksgiving! Only a few more weeks.
So what other “GOOD” music do you recommend for the kiddos? My 5 1/2 month old needs more music! Thanks.
I like the journey one.
I would love to have a copy of Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of The Beatles
My favorite is The Beatles. We’ve borrowed it from the library a few times before, and mommy thoroughly enjoyed it! That being said, if I won one, I think I’d like the Queen disc!

LOL….I thought these were just a joke at first. But my husband is a HUGGGGEEEE Metallica fan (even took me to a concert when I was 6 mo pregnant with my second) and I found the Rock A Bye Baby Metallica CD….we love it! Although its sounds like a kiddies music cd, we can here all the real music and words when we listen…very cool!
It makes a great gift for baby showers!!!

My son has actually listened to Rock-a-bye baby since he was born, they played in the special care nursery at the hospital (he’s now 18 months old and still listens at bedtime) Our favorite is U2 but I would love to add Bob Marley to our collection.

Funny, I was just researching baby music that was baby-ish because I feel the same way that you do about ‘kids music.’ I downloaded the Rockaby Baby! Bob Marley album and I totally dig it! I hope the baby does too! If we won this giveaway, I think we’d pick the U2 album.
