Now that I’m a mother, my life is very different. And I love it. Here are just a few things that are different and wonderful:

  1. I wake up slowly, at whatever time my little girl decides is “morning.” We cuddle and nurse in bed until we’re both in a great mood and ready to attack the day.
  2. I get to read children’s books on a daily basis. I love children’s books, but it feels silly to read them alone as an adult. She’s starting to notice the pictures, too.
    clip_image002
  3. Because my daughter is experiencing everything for the first time, I’m seeing the world as if it’s brand new too. Everything is incredible.
  4. Special little moments have the ability to freeze time. Like when Anneliese is nursing, then takes a break for a moment to look up at me and grin. Time stops, and my heart explodes.
  5. When I run errands, I can talk to “myself” without looking like a crazy person. I narrate what we are doing, and describe everything we see, as I pat my baby’s bottom through our ring sling.
  6. I notice the tiny things I do for myself much more, whether it’s savoring a dark chocolate Lindor truffle, painting my toenails, or spending some time with a magazine.
  7. I have a fantastic subject for my photography whenever the mood strikes. Sorry, Zora, but dogs aren’t as exciting to photograph as babies are.
  8. A whole new world of craft projects has opened up to me – making baby clothes, sewing and embroidering ring slings, crocheting blankets, and making soft toys.
  9. I feel more pride when I get things done around the house. It feels less like a chore and more like an accomplishment – whether it’s dusting, doing a load of laundry and getting it put away, or emptying the dishwasher.
  10. Every day I get to watch my little girl grow, and know that I am nourishing her in every way. It’s like magic.

I love that my son has afternoon kindergarten! I have a three year old daughter too, so it is perfect. They play in the morning, we can slowly get ready or go to the park before my son has school. I feel like it gives me the extra time to spend with my kids.

Try not to laugh, but I honestly thing micro-accomplishments are a great thing! It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff that needs to be attended to on a daily basis – sometimes, focusing on small triumphs gets you through to the end of the day!

I like working 2nd shift. I was never an early morning person and I have a reason to sleep past 9am now. I usually have enough time to get things done during the day while my husband is at work and my daughter at school, it’s very quiet here during the day and I can focus on things I want to get done before I have to start getting ready to go to work. I know my husband would rather have me working day shift but we save so much money on childcare with each of us working a different shift.

Geoff K (10 comments)

I love the natural ebbs and flows of the day. When I wake up earlier than everyone else, I enjoy a peaceful hour to myself, then suddenly things pick up quickly once everyone awakes and needs to get out the door. Then things slow down a bit as I ease into the work day, and then speed up again as the afternoon swings into full gear. But my favorite time of day is dinnertime, when we all decompress from our busy days and just breathe a sigh of relief once we’re at the table!

I like that hubby and I work together – we carpool to save $$, but it also means that we seem always to be within earshot of one another. If we need to take a detour, we just do it – or sometimes he surprizes me and takes me to McDonalds for the “big breakfast” – it’s like those minutes I used to rush to be “on time” etc. vanished.

I’m lucky enough to be able to work from home, so having a flexible schedule and being able to rearrange my day as needed is something I really love and appreciate!

I don’t have to rush and stress in the mornings. I LOVE THAT! In fact, I start my days with my a cup of coffee on the living room floor–baby playing beside me–and time for a Bible study. How awesome is that?!?

I love the pace of my days now that my children have grown. I now have time to do the things for me that I’ve always wanted to do, read a book all day or plan a day with girlfriends.

I love having my coffee in the mornings. It’s a great start to a usually hectic day.

Suzanne K (8 comments)

Right now, I don’t like anything about the pace of my days. I’ve got a huge, critical conversion going on at work and am spending WAY too much time working and getting behind on everything else. That should be done by early January, and then life will slow down. I may actually get back to spending some time taking care of ME!

I love my mornings! because they are similar to yours, I nurse my baby until we are both ready to get up, its a great way to start your day :) The rest of the day is pretty hectic, but after dinner things slow down and we all go lay down on the bed and relax for the day.

Heh, I know this might sound sad, but there’s not really much I like about the pace of my days. Ever feel like you’re constantly hitting the ground running and that no matter what you do, the world never really seems to want to let you go? :P Yeah, that’s me…

Two things that I love about my day are picking my kids up from school and reading to them at night. Both activities make me slow down and just enjoy “being” with my children. I enjoy the conversations we have in the car as my kids spout out snippets from their day. In the evening I enjoy getting into bed and snuggling with my kids as I read aloud. Yes, they are old enough to read to themselves but this is a routine we all look forward to.

I am too a new mom of an adorable little girl.I love seeing the cute new things she figures out how to do. Her “kisses” and giggles just melt me.

Ashley (3 comments)

I love staying at home with my 16mo son. He wakes me up with a kiss and a request for “boo” and we giggle and play while he nurses. The rest of the day, I just enjoy every little thing he does. He’s so smart and helpful and cute, and it amazes me every single day. Cleaning house is a game to us, since he likes to help sweep the floor and push the vacuum. I love reading to him and going on long walks, and I especially love snuggling up in bed with him for his nap while I read blogs and twitter and facebook on the phone.

Whitney (15 comments)

I love that I am able to be a SAHM so that I can treasure each moment with my daughter throughout the day. We move at our own pace and I absolutely love it! When she first wakes in the morning, I un-swaddle her, change her diaper, and then she nurses. After she nurses we play for a while and then I (sometimes) get to take her morning nap with her cuddled in my arms!

I love moving at my child’s pace. She moves from object to object, activity to activity, and instead of trying to get her to fit into my schedule, I just move with her. Now an atmosphere of relaxation and fun fill our days and she’s way more apt to listen when I say “no” or take me up on my suggestions. It’s a lot more fun and easier these days!

Nellie (6 comments)

I am treasuring the little moments in life such as my 7 month old baby girl giving me her first smile in the morning; genuinely happy to see me and a relaxed Sunday afternoon spent looking at the Christmas tree lights and sipping hot cocoa (which my husband graciously made from scratch) all while it SNOWED outside!

No children, but…

I love my morning coffee ritual. I can sit, have a cup of coffee, and brace myself for the day ahead. Usually I take that time to read blogs, write emails, and so on, before the day takes over. :)

Jessica (8 comments)

I am learning to embrace motherhood by teaching my two year old to count and just taking a couple hours or minutes whatever time I have to be there in the moment with my 3 month old. To just coo with him, kiss his toes and smell his sweet head.

Also I am learning that I will have years and years to clean the house and keep it sparkling. But I only have a few fleeting ones with my children. Oh and I so agree about what you said about doing any type of chore feeling like an accomplishment! :) Totally agree.

I love all these things too and a bunch of other things as well. Having a teenager daughter is a daily adventure. Having a sharp as a tack 12 year old is an intellectual challenge. Having a 10 year old is a lesson is entomology. I don’t get to snuggle in bed until Ella wakes up because there are 3 other little-ish people who need breakfast but I appreciate them all that much more because my time is limited. When my first baby was a baby I never thought I could love another person as much as her but loves multiplies! It’s brilliant!

I am learning to love (read: not feel guilty about) sitting down and relaxing for a few minutes while my daughter naps. This means either reading Facebook/blogs on my computer (NOT MY PHONE!!!), reading a book, watching TV, or taking a nap. It’s taken time to realize that it’s okay to chill for a few minutes instead of rushing to clean my house the second the girl is asleep.
