Freschetta Pizza by the Slice–Review and Giveaway

This post brought to you by FRESCHETTA®. All opinions are 100% mine.

If you read my blog much, by now you know that I don’t cook with wheat anymore, and I consider grains to be junk food. But sometimes I still eat them. Just like even though you know candy is junk food, you might eat some now and then.

And even though I’ve enjoyed grain free pizza crust alternatives, sometimes I like pizza. Regular, junk food pizza.

So sometimes that means I’ll order a pizza. A whole pizza.  And eat it in the next 3 days or so. ALL of it.

Enter pizza by the slice. Freschetta wants to give you a way to eat pizza when you want it, without having to order a whole thing.

Right now there are four different flavors:

* BBQ Recipe Chicken
* Vegetable Medley
* Chicken, Spinach & Mushroom
* Six Cheese Medley

But our store only had one, the Chicken, Spinach & Mushroom variety. (Save Mart in Hanford, CA)

So I took it home to try it. (Free! Because right now there’s a rebate inside the box. Limit 2 per household.)
This is what the box promised:

And this is how it came out, cooked (one bite taken before I realized I should take a picture.)

NOT the most appetizing-looking pizza, but I have to admit, it was tasty enough, and the one slice was really filling.
Even though it’s a microwave thing, it wasn’t soggy. But it didn’t taste “Fresh out of the oven” either.

If you want to try FRESCHETTA® By the Slice, see if your grocery store has the ones with the mail in rebate right now. OR you can comment here, and I’ll choose one person to send a coupon to (they sent me a coupon for a free one too!) randomly.

Comment with your answer: How do you moderate the amount of junk food you eat?  How do you maintain balance between real food and “exceptions”?

    Hm… I don’t really pay attention to it because I try to only surround myself with healthful options at home… and then that way if I’m out and about and I see something that I normally wouldn’t have, I don’t think twice about indulging, knowing that I’ll be home again for the next week and eating healthfully again. So, I guess my answer is that at home, there’s no junk food allowed in the cupboards or fridge… but when I’m running errands, I’ll allow myself to cave in to a junk food craving.

    I belong to a CSA to “force” my family to eat more fruits and veggies. My husband and I have a green shake every morning and then eat sensibly other than that. I allow myself treats but usually 1-2 a day only. I try to limit the kiddos, too… that can be a struggle!

    Luckily i like healthy food,i haven’t found a vegetable i don’t love!
    I try to use organic salad dressings that are lower in fat and rarely even buy junk food so it’s not an option to eat it when i’m not really hungry but stressed or bored.

    If I’m craving something, I try to eat at least a small portion of it. If I don’t, I’ll just keep wanting to eat until I get something to fulfill me.

    I count calories until dinner time. Then I try to eat a sensible, healthy dinner. I maintain balance quite poorly many days, but I try to only make “exceptions” on the weekends.

    I try to only eat 1 junk food item a day, the rest I’ll eat fruit or some nuts for a snack. If I’m having a really bad day, I’ll allow myself some extra junk food :)
