I’m pretty simple when it comes to makeup. Sometimes I try to branch out and buy some eyeliner or something, but it never seems to “stick.” Meaning, I might try it a couple times, but it always seems too complicated to use much.
I’ve been using the same shade of lipstick every day for probably 100 years… even when I buy a new lipstick, it’s a variation of the “spiced coffee” type of shade.
So when I got this little black box in the mail from Mary Kay, I had no idea what to expect. Something I’d try once and then bury in my “too complicated” makeup drawer? Or something that might make its way into my normal rotation?
I peeked inside and this is what I found:
- Mary Kay Compact Mini with Mineral Eye and Cheek Colors
- Mary Kay Crème Lipstick in Fuchsia
- Mary Kay Lash Love Mascara
- Mary Kay TimeWise Microdermabrasion Set
I dove into the makeup right away, while Anneliese watched me curiously. The blush was pretty safe, and the shadows were colors that I wouldn’t normally go for (er, I don’t normally wear shadow at all) but I knew the purple would look great with my green eyes.
The lipstick, in fuchsia, was something I’d NEVER pick out for myself, but the color was fabulous with my skin tone, and it went on smoothly and didn’t dry out my lips. I’ve worn it a few times since my first trial, and I like that it can be really bold, or you can blot it away to make it more of a stain.
I almost never wear mascara either, but this was really easy to apply and I like the way it made my eyes POP. It definitely won’t be a part of my daily routine, but I’ll probably brush some on if I’m “dressing up” or getting pictures taken or something.
See? Pretty colors, easy to wear. Love it.
I have no photos of the microdermabrasion set in use, sorry. My usual face-washing routine is to exfoliate a bit with hot water and a washcloth in the shower. Yeah, that’s it. If I feel like I’m getting “cloggy” I’ll add an oil cleanse (oil cleansing method) to the mix. So this is something different for me too.
Step 1 is a sandy-feeling exfoliator. I smoothed it on, being careful to avoid my eyes, but during the rinsing process I did get some in my eyes, and it hurt a lot.
Step 2 is a serum you smooth on to moisturize the skin you just exposed. It feels pretty nice.
My skin felt good after using the set, but I’m not sure how often I’ll do it, especially since I’ll be afraid of getting the scratchies in my eyes again. Not to mention that I don’t really spend a lot of time washing my face… during showers is about it.

The microdermabrasion kit seems like it would be out of my comfort zone since I’ve never used such a product but I would love to try it and get some clear skin happening
I try something new with my eye makeup each week. But usually I swipe it off and brush some light copper or brown across my lids and run. Although the Pan Am show is making me want to learn that sweeping cat eye!
I would love to try the TimeWise® Firming Eye Cream, $30! Thanks! kmassmanATgmailDOTcom
The Fuchsia Lipstick is out of my usual routine because I usually put light color lipstick but I’d like to try the Fuchsia color as it looks good on you.

The Fuschia lipstick, it’s too much color for me. I might gice it a try though.
The fuschia lipstick sounds out of my comfort zone, but I’d love to try.

I would never think to try fuschia lipstick! (I don’t wear any lipstick, like, never). But seeing it in the picture makes me think that maybe I should branch out from my usual gloss and add a little color.
I have tried the microdermabrasion set before and I do like it. I haven’t had any trouble with it getting in my eyes, but I have had it get in my mouth, it feels like gritty sand between my teeth
i love mary kay
I haven’t been able to find the perfect foundation yet, so I’d love to try Mary Kay’s!

Okay… I SWEAR I’m not trying to be a jerk… but since I know you try to go natural and non-toxic with most other things, I thought you might want to know… just keepin it real. There are over 450 toxins that have been outlawed in Europe for cosmetics, and in America, we used all 450 in our cosmetics, with Mary Kay being one of the biggest buyers/users of these ingredients/chemicals. In fact, before Mary Kay was allowed to sell their product in Europe, it ALL had to be completely reformulated, leaving out the unsafe ingredients. This costs a ton of money for them, so they still use the sub-par ingredients in the USA.
They use several carcinogens, they use a product that is used to burn barnacles off of ocean liners, and one of the main ingredients they use is mineral oil, which is a byproduct of rendered restaurant grease and euthanized-animal fat. “Mineral oil” doesn’t have any minerals in it… and comes from the same source as road tar and some automobile oils. It coats your skin like plastic wrap, not allowing it to breathe or release toxins. There’s SO much more, but I don’t want to overload with info… I just thought you might want to know since I know you care about keeping yourself and your family in a pretty non-toxic state.
I tweeted – only I don’t know how to get the URL of an individual tweet … http://twitter.com/#!/KangaMomma
Fuschia lipstick would be waaay out of my comfort zone, but I’d be willing to try it! Love MK products, especially “Satin Hands.”
Bright lipstick is way out of my comfort zone.
The lipstick because I don’t usually wear any, but i’d try it out. I think it would be fun for a holiday party perhaps.
I’d love to try their tinted moisturizer! It seems like a great way to skip a step in my normal routine.
I also usually use everything except the lipstick. I’m not a big lipstick wearer, and especially not bright colors. But it looked gorgeous on you!
The only product out of my comfort zone would be the lipstick, everything else I would use on a regular basis, well maybe eye shadow just for going out at night.

The bright lipsticks is kind of out of my usual routine. I usually put lip gross only and very often light in color. But this is such a beautiful color on you I might just have to give it a try.

I’ve always wanted to try a dermabrasion kit. I think that deep purple eye shadow would be way out of my comfort zone though, I usually go for pale shades and even light purple but that is pretty dark.
I really have no idea how to do my eyes either, so who knows if it would work for me!
The lipstick looks good on you!

I’m not big into make up or cleansing routines either but I always wear mascara and try to use some powder if I’m going out.
I LOVE Mary Kay though and use their concealer for dark eye circles or whenever I need it. I used to use their face washes but now I’m a water and towel girl too!
You look GORGEOUS!

My face washing routine is the same as yours. So I guess the skin care would be outside of my norm. I think I actually have those eyecolors right now, and I love the mascara.
