The Big Latch On–Lemoore, CA

Yesterday, Anneliese, Joey, and I joined several other mamas from our area at our La Leche League leader’s backyard to nurse our children simultaneously along with moms and babies around the world.

From www.biglatchon.org:

Aims of the Big Latch On

  • Support for communities to identify and grow opportunities to provide ongoing breastfeeding support and promotion.
  • Raise awareness of breastfeeding support and knowledge available in communities.
  • Help communities positively support breastfeeding in public places.
  • Make breastfeeding a normal part of the day-to-day life at a local community level.
  • Increase support for women who breastfeed – women are supported by their partners, family and the breastfeeding knowledge that is embedded in their communities.
  • Communities have the resources to advocate for coordinated appropriate and accessible breastfeeding support services.

Anneliese was too busy playing to nurse and be counted, so she ran around with plastic food and putting her baby doll down the little slide.

My doula Coleen came to hang out. It’s always great to see her.

And Joey nursed in his sling…

…until he got sleepy and took a little nap.

My girlfriend Katie was there with her toddler boy Jackson,

and Joni had her Ella and Max, who were both happy to nurse for the count.

2012 So Far

Did you participate in The Big Latch On? Is it something you’d want to join in on in the future?

You gals are awesome. If I had a baby who was still breastfeeding I would have totally joined you! Maybe one day in the future. :-)

  2. Rosie says:

I did! Sad I didn’t get to participate with my LLL buddies, but I made a new friend instead!

Hi! I'm Emily. I'm a Navy wife and stay at home mom of two beautiful children. I cook simple, delicious, grain-free recipes, do crafts, decorate my home on a budget, and keep a happy household. I tandem breastfeed, babywear, cloth diaper, practice elimination communication, homebirth, and co-sleep, but I'm not a hippie.
