This is my blog income report for the month of April 2016.

This post contains affiliate links.

How I earned $1569 from my blog in one month, and some exciting developments for my blog's future. Want to make money from home? Starting a blog might be the way to go.

Why write a blog income report?

I know it seems a bit too personal. Maybe even taboo. I’m giving you the real numbers – what I actually earned, and what I spent to do it. But why?

Because I want to inspire you. I want to show you that earning some income from writing a blog, while working from home and being a full-time mama? It’s possible.

I love reading other people’s income reports and seeing how they do things differently. I appreciate other bloggers sharing their insights into the process and the nitty-gritty of blogging. I value the glimpse into someone else’s version of “real life” while they’re making it work as a blogger.

If you are interested in starting a blog of your own, I created a tutorial that will help you start a blog of your own in 4 easy steps, starting at only $3.54 per month (with a discount only through my link) for blog hosting.

Plus, you will receive a free blog domain (a $15 value) through my A Small Orange link if you purchase at least 12 months of blog hosting. And you definitely want to be self-hosted.

Being self-hosted gives you the flexibility to make your blog look exactly the way you want it to, make money from it if you’d like (some free blog platforms restrict this), and truly own your internet “property.”

So I’m giving the same thing back to the community.

Each month, I’ll review what I did, along with lessons I learned or insight I gained.

Then, I’ll break down my income and expenses along with my traffic.

Are you ready?

How did I do this month?

This month I continued my trend of being “dropped off the face of the planet” I started last month… I still had basically no sponsored work coming in, and a no-napping baby made it very hard to get anything optional done on the blog.

I started realizing that if I want to get things back on track, I needed to buckle down and focus. I had two blogs I was basically failing at (failing meaning not adding anything useful to them currently) – So Damn Domestic and this one. And I couldn’t stop thinking that I should combine the two sites into one… Joyful Abode has been around much longer, and despite my efforts on So Damn Domestic, this site still has the majority of my traffic and my income.

So it made sense to focus on this one. I mentioned my idea of moving my So Damn Domestic content over here to my web designer toward the end of the month, and she immediately jumped on board. So the end of this month (and the first part of May) was dedicated to working with her to get everything moved over, tweak my blog design, and kind of refresh things.

LOTS of behind-the-scenes things that my normal visitors and readers might not notice. But I’m hoping that it helps me in the future. I think it’s for the best.

What else happened?

I’m still working on growing my instagram account. I had about 14,500 followers at the beginning of April, and by the end of the month, I had 18,789. Really amazing growth.

I’m mainly using techniques from guide 5 here, and highly recommend the guide if you’re looking for the most effective way to quickly grow your Instagram account. It comes with the most awesome facebook group of supportive and open businesswomen and men!

Plus, when you purchase the guide, you get to participate in “bubble nets” about once a week, which is a group effort to get more targeted followers – and usually we each get about 300 followers on bubble net day! Guide 5 is the key one for growth, but all of the guides are amazing. Definitely check them out.

Income:

Affiliate:

Products:

  • Membership and Courses – $194
  • Etsy (Printables and PDFs) -$71.44 – This amount is lower than usual, because unfortunately my debit card expired and I didn’t see the emails about updating it. So my account was suspended for a while before I noticed. CRUD!

  • EBook Sales (Amazon) – $2.08

Writing:

  • IZEA Sponsored Posts – $70.49 – As I said, the last couple of months have been a huge slump for sponsored posts, so this number is very low compared to what I can normally earn here.
  • Other Sponsored Posts – $0

  • Display ads (The Blogger Network) – $921.89

Total Income for April 2016: $1,569.84

Total Expenses for April 2016: $713.44

Net Income for April 2016: $856.40

With my really high web design costs this month, and my crazy low income, I’m not surprised my net income is so low this month. Still, I’m okay with it… nearly a thousand dollars to contribute to our future-house downpayment fund is awesome to me!

Traffic report:

How did I make almost a thousand dollars from my blog? I'll show you my income and traffic report!

My traffic is a bit better again (last month was super low for me), and I couldn’t tell you exactly why.

Looking forward:

I’m looking forward to finishing my website-combination, getting my pinterest under control (see last month’s income report for more about that), and starting to post great content again.

I’m pitching campaign ideas to brands so I can hopefully work together with some brands I LOVE, and I’m researching more about automating more of my social media so that I can benefit from more consistent traffic referral from those accounts.
