Welcome to Meridian NAS!
We’re here in Meridian, Mississippi. We got in on Friday, after driving through the rain from Milton, FL. We checked into the bachelor’s quarters (sort of like a hotel on base, aka the Q) and got settled.
We met up with another couple who is here, and they showed us around the base and around town, and then we went to dinner together. It was a very nice welcome!
Since then, we’ve gone on some walks around a little trail that’s behind the Q, and I’ve made several home-cooked meals since our suite has a little kitchen. It’s been comfortable, but of course we’ve been hoping to get a house on base. Yesterday we went to the gym and today I’m definitely feeling it.
Well this morning, we went to the housing office and guess what! We moved up from 2nd or 3rd on the waiting list to first! AND someone moved out of a house last week! It’s currently in maintenance (the little touch-up painting stuff and cleaning) but we should be able to move in before the end of the month. Very exciting!
I went by the housing company’s office (different from the base housing office, since housing is now privatized here) and a sweet girl (hi Jill!) showed me the house. It is fantastic. We have one of the newest houses, and the kitchen is much larger than the old versions (as is the pantry), the layout is great, and there is a lot of storage space. I am beyond thrilled!
Also, the yard will be maintained for us, but I can plant things if I want to… flowers or whatever. So that’s exciting too!
I have taken some pictures of home-cooked-meals-in-a-hotel-suite, so I’ll be writing those up soon. I just need to edit them and such so they look as appetizing as they can despite the very low light they were taken in. haha.
Just thought I’d pop in and tell everyone the news! Thanks for hanging in there with me.
