On doing dishes

Yesterday was the guy’s birthday. After dinner, he started bustling around in the kitchen. Me: Don’t clean up! I’ll do it. Him: No, I have to. I can’t get out of practice, because then tomorrow will be weird. Hehe!!! I’m so lucky. (I still did clean up most of it, though I stopped when myContinue Reading

Happy birthday, sweetie!

Happy birthday, sweetie!

My dear sweet guy is 24 now. I got to make him a chocolate birthday cake today! His cake has a big “T” on it, because it’s the first letter of his name. I put it in front of him to let him do the birthday-boy pose thing, and gave him a fork for emphasis…Continue Reading

Applesauce Spice Cake

Applesauce Spice Cake

Yesterday, I made two delicious applesauce spice cakes. One was for me and my husband, and the other was to take to work. Last year, I was one of 40+ new faculty members at my school. It was like a huge boot camp bonding experience for all of us. This year, I am the onlyContinue Reading

Settling in

Settling in

We’ve been settling in to our new house here in sunny Florida, after *insert long story* finally getting all of our things from South Carolina. We’re mostly unpacked, and we have been using our new pots for some yummy home-cooked dinners. The first night we were here, we went to Wal-Mart and got cereal, whichContinue Reading

Happily married and moving tomorrow!

The wedding was fantastic-ly beautiful. Everyone kept telling me at the reception that the food was delicious and all of the decorations and flowers were breathtaking. The food and decorations were conceived and executed by my talented stepmother. The wedding was unlike anything the lady who works at the park (and has seen hundreds ofContinue Reading

Where have I been?

I’ve been super-busy lately with last-minute wedding stuff. I’ve been wrapping gifts and calling everyone (DJ, photographer, officiant, parents, etc.) and generally being exhausted. The wedding is Saturday, and after that we’ll be honeymooning in Georgia until Thursday I think.  Then, a few days later, August 1, we’ll be packing up and moving to Florida!Continue Reading

On tying shoes

On tying shoes

As a first grade teacher last year, I had PLENTY of students come into my classroom with untied shoelaces, or laces that would untie themselves after a few minutes. I usually had the kids tie their own shoes, but in the case of frustratingly short laces or unusually slippery ones, I would re-tie them withContinue Reading

Self-Portrait Tuesday

This picture was actually taken last Tuesday, but I figured I could still post it today. See how excited/crazed I am to be in Po Folks eating a bread stick? It’s blurry because I’m vibrating with happiness.Continue Reading

Back from Pensacola!

I found a house… it’s in “twinsville” aka a neighborhood where everything is exactly the same … but it’s in our price range, and clean and well-kept, so I think it will be really good! We’re going to send the application soon. Cross fingers for us! (There are really two. The first one wins becauseContinue Reading

Hi! I'm Emily. I'm a Navy wife and stay at home mom of two beautiful children. I cook simple, delicious, grain-free recipes, do crafts, decorate my home on a budget, and keep a happy household. I tandem breastfeed, babywear, cloth diaper, practice elimination communication, homebirth, and co-sleep, but I'm not a hippie.
