This is my blog income report for the month of February 2016.

This post contains affiliate links.

How I earned $3855 with my blog last month. Details and tips, so you can do it too.

Why write a blog income report?

I know it seems a bit too personal. Maybe even taboo. I’m giving you the real numbers – what I actually earned, and what I spent to do it. But why?

Because I want to inspire you. I want to show you that earning some income from writing a blog, while working from home and being a full-time mama? It’s possible.

I love reading other people’s income reports and seeing how they do things differently. I appreciate other bloggers sharing their insights into the process and the nitty-gritty of blogging. I value the glimpse into someone else’s version of “real life” while they’re making it work as a blogger.

If you are interested in starting a blog of your own, I created a tutorial that will help you start a blog of your own in 4 easy steps, starting at only $3.54 per month (with a discount only through my link) for blog hosting.

Plus, you will receive a free blog domain (a $15 value) through my A Small Orange link if you purchase at least 12 months of blog hosting. And you definitely want to be self-hosted.

Being self-hosted gives you the flexibility to make your blog look exactly the way you want it to, make money from it if you’d like (some free blog platforms restrict this), and truly own your internet “property.”

So I’m giving the same thing back to the community.

Each month, I’ll review what I did, along with lessons I learned or insight I gained.

Then, I’ll break down my income and expenses, my traffic, and my income per thousand views.

Are you ready?

What were my intentions for February?

  1. Finally get email opt-ins on my sites.
  2. Make a blogger incentive to build my blogger email list.
  3. Write 750 words daily.

 How did I do?

Get email opt-ins up.

OK I want to cry here… I did try. A few times. But I was having issues with Leadpages not saving my leadbox changes, so I couldn’t actually get them on the sites. And I got frustrated with it so I stopped trying. I need to do this, I know, and I emailed Leadpages support, so we’ll see what happens with that.

Make a blogger incentive to build my blogger email list.

I have it halfway made. I need to finish it and get it up.

Write daily.

This didn’t happen either. Stuff kept coming up, and then we all got sick, and I have barely touched my computer in general… I need to make this more of a priority, because the heart of blogging is WRITING.

What else happened?

I’ve been focusing on growing my Instagram – something I can do without touching my computer. It isn’t a useless effort, since I do earn income from sponsored Instagram posts, and I can command a higher price when I have more followers there. I crossed 10,000 followers on my instagram account, and I’m at over 12,000 as of today.

I’m mainly using techniques from guide 5 here, and highly recommend the guide if you’re looking for the most effective way to quickly grow your Instagram account.

Traffic report:

How I made over $3000 from my blog in February

My traffic is crazy low right now, and I haven’t been able to figure out exactly why. I’ve heard some other bloggers talk about some changes in Pinterest resulting in way lower traffic from that source, and that does account for a few thousand page views for me, but I’m not sure what else was suffering this month.

RPM: Revenue per 1000 – $18

This is the amount I earned (net) per 1000 views on my site. This number will give me a good metric for comparing different months even when traffic fluctuates. Last month was $14.24 RPM . I guess this month is so much higher because my overall traffic was lower. I’m wondering if I should stop doing these reports altogether since so much of my income doesn’t seem linked to my traffic directly. This number always seems all over the place and kind of silly to look at.

My intentions for March:

In March, I will:

  1. Try again to get the email sign-ups up. Hopefully Leadpages will cooperate this time.
  2. Continue growing my Instagram account, and make a few pitches to companies I love for sponsored posts there.
  3. Get my blogger incentive finished and up.
