How to Make a Starry Night Light out of a Kleenex Box

This post was sponsored by Kleenex. As always, all opinions are mine.

My kids have never seen any of the Star Wars movies, but they see references to them, see merchandise, and hear their friends talking about them.

And their consensus? Star Wars is cool.

The new Star Wars movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story© TM Lucasfilm LTD, is coming out soon, and I’m looking forward to seeing it!

How old do you think the kids should be when we start watching them for the first time? Or reading the books? I can’t decide…

Regardless, when Joey saw the Kleenex brand boxes featuring Star Wars designs? He thought they were the coolest ever. And he wanted the box! I probably shouldn’t have mentioned the idea of turning the box into a night light (it was on Kleenex’s facebook page a bit ago) because he got way too excited about that idea and couldn’t wait.

I had to pick Joey up from school the other day because he threw up. No fever, and he felt fine the rest of the day, so I’m sure it was one of those preschool fluke things, but it did give us some quality time together at home!

So when he asked about the night light (again) I knew I couldn’t make him wait any longer. I pulled out the Kleenex from the box, and now I have them in a basket to use later… and Joey, very happily, has his night light.

Spending quality time together is a simple way to show those you love just how much you care. The small gesture of making a night light together seemed huge to Joey. I could tell his cup was full by the end.

How to #ShareKleenexCare with a homemade night light

Step 1: Select your favorite Kleenex box featuring Star Wars designs.

Step 2: Remove the Kleenex facial tissues from the box, and set aside (or use up the tissues over time). Remove the plastic from the top of the box.

Step 3: Using phillips head screwdrivers, poke holes in the box. I used two different sizes. You can also use a nail or thumb tack.

Step 4: Put your electric tea light into the box. (Please for the love of everything good, do not use a real candle.)

Step 5: Turn off the lights!

Step 6: Enjoy the “stars” as you doze off to sleep.

Seriously, for such an easy, small project, Joey really loved doing it together. He helped me poke some of the holes with the screwdrivers, and loved putting the light in and taking it out, turning it on and off. He even lovingly cleaned off his dresser to give it a special spot next to his piggy bank.
